Information

Mancass was formed in the late 50’s as a sports and social club within BT. At this time there where many local sports and social clubs but as time progressed the clubs merged and eventually Mancass was formed in 1986 and we now have members in the North West and North East of England.

Mancass organise Day, Weekend and longer tours throughout the year, including events for those who like to walk and organise tickets for shows. For the more active we have several gyms located in BT buildings and we have a golf section, the Portland Golf Club who organise monthly competitions during the season and a yearly golfing holiday. The Portland Golf will have been established 50 years in 2015.

Also within Mancass we have a Rochdale sports and social section that greatly add to our overall package of events.

The activities of the club are open to BT employees and retired staff as well as friends and family, and to cater for the various ages of the members, Mancass’ programme is suitably diverse. There are currently 1,200 members and each of them pays a monthly fee of £5.25, which also includes a share in the Club Lottery.

The  Club Lottery was introduced in September 1989 and is a major fund raiser for the club enabling us to subsidise many of the events and trips which we organise for our members and their families. The number of shares is restricted to 2000 (maximum holding per person is 5) and the cost of each additional share is £4.25 per month.

Approximately 64% of the income that is generated through the lottery is paid back in prizes with the balance used to help subsidise MANCASS activities.

There are up to 7 cash prizes drawn up every month of the year.

  • 12 monthly draws where the top prize is £1000

  • Every 6 months there is a draw for a £3000 CASH PRIZE

If you would like to apply for shares in the Club Lottery, then contact the MANCASS secretary for a form or you can download it from the link at the top of this page.

We  draw 7 winners each month and the top prize is £1,000. Any remaining money is then used to subsidise Mancass events. We allow non-members to come on our trips; however, they must pay the non-subsidised rate.”

The social committee meet four times a year at BT’s offices in Rochdale. Once the programme has been agreed, events are posted on our website and email shots also give the latest news. We also use Facebook to post the latest news from events, many while the events are taking place. It is also an opportunity for members with a Facebook account to interact with the organisers.
